Jezrien, also known as Jezerezeh'Elin, was one of the ten Heralds of The Almighty and the patron of the Order of Windrunners.
Appearance
He was their leader, and was described as having a royal bearing. He looked about 30 at the Last Desolation, with a short neat black beard. He used to be a king, but it has been several centuries since he reigned. He seemed distraught at the ending of the Oathpact.
History
In the past Jezrien had been a king.He may or may not have been married but had at least one child, Shalash.[1] 99 Desolations after the beginning of the Oathpact[2] he, along with the other heralds save for Talenel who had died, decided that they could no longer withstand the torture they faced in between desolations and thus decided to abandon their pledge. He was chosen by the rest to wait and see if Kalak had survived and if so, to let him know they would not return to their place of punishment. He then summoned his honorblade and left it stuck point-first into the ground, before taking off by himself.[3]
It is unknown how he had spent the 4,500 years between the prelude and the events taking place during the stormlight archive, however it is mentioned by Nale that he is still alive at this point, likely in a catatonic state.[4]
Stormfather
In Vorin religion Jezrien was also known as Stormfather. This stemmed from his reputation of being known for his fury and temper, yet also his mercy, and during the Era of Solitude, he was thought to be master of the storms, the bringer of water and life.[5] 'Stormfather was sometimes used as a curse.
Jezrien in other Religions
“[The Makabaki] worship Jezrien, though they don’t accept him as a figure from the Vorin religion. They name him the only god.”
In Azir Jezrien is known as "Yaezir".[4]
Honorblade
Jezrien's Honorblade grants the wielder the powers of a Windrunner. Szeth was in possession of the blade until his fight with Kaladin, who killed Szeth and took the sword.
Quotes
“"Praise Yaezir", he said. "Herald of Kings. May he lead in wisdom. If he ever stops drooling"”
““Better that one man should suffer than ten,” Jezrien whispered. He seemed so cold. Like a shadow caused by heat and light falling on someone honourable and true, casting this black imitation behind.”
“Kalak looked into the immortal king’s eyes. Black smoke rose from a small patch to their left. Groans of the dying haunted them from behind. There, in Jezrien’s eyes, Kalak saw anguish and grief. Perhaps even cowardice. This was a man hanging from a cliff by a thread.”
