Your Majesty, I fear that our conversation this day has run in circles, and that nothing is being accomplished.

—Jayla Ruthar to King Elhokar Kholin[1]

Brightlady Jayla Ruthar is an Alethi noblewoman on Roshar during the Era of Solitude.[1]

Appearance and Personality

Jasnah Kholin believes that Jayla and her husband are thieving and dangerous. They are usually political allies of Torol and Ialai Sadeas,[1][2] who use them for their ambition.[3]

History

At some point in her youth, Jayla wed Highprince Ruthar;[1] by 1145 she had given birth to their eldest son Relis[4] and later had at least one more child, a son named Ivanar.[5] She is the aunt of Elit Ruthar.[6]

During the War of Reckoning, she lived on the Shattered Plains, presumably in the Ruthar warcamp. In late 1173, she attended a meeting in the Pinnacle with other members of the Alethi nobility to discuss the threat of the Assassin in White.[1]

Jayla's fate during the True Desolation is unclear. Highprince Ruthar moved to Urithiru after the Battle of Narak;[2] he was later stripped of his title and exiled to Azimir, and Relis became the new highprince.[5][7] Jayla is not mentioned in connection with these events.
