The Ten Essences is the traditional Vorin term associated with both Soulcasting properties and the Heralds.

Soulcasting[edit]

Each Essence is connected to a particular gemstone.[1] In order to Soulcast (via fabrial) an object into a new material, a Soulcaster must use the gemstone that corresponds to the new material's Essence.

Vorinism[edit]

Modern Vorin teachings connect each Essence with a Herald and that Herald's divine attributes. Ancient Vorinism also correlated them with the Orders of Radiants, although these correlations were not completely accurate.[2] Each stance used in Vorin combat is associated with an Essence.[3]

Body Focus[edit]

Vorin doctrine also associates each Essence with a "Body Focus" related to the human body. Khriss believes that the concept is attributable to Vorin philosophy rather than any actual aspect of Rosharan Investiture.[1] However, it may in fact have some significance.[4] Body Focuses do not directly correspond to Hemalurgic bindpoints, but there is a loose relationship.[5]

  1. a b In the Ars Arcanum of The Way of Kings, the Divine Attributes of learned/giving and just/confident were placed in each other's places by mistake. This was later corrected by Peter Ahlstrom.
