The Thrill is a feeling mentioned on Roshar.

Origins and Location

In Hessi's Mythica, the author says that he/she thinks it is caused by Nergaoul, presumably one of the Unmade.[1] It is strongest in Alethkar, but also exists in Jah Keved, causing those nations to be more warlike. Nations such as Shinovar do not have the Thrill, and as a result are much more peaceful.

The Thrill is related to Investiture.[2]

While in Vedenar, Dalinar inspects the remains of the armies. He learns from them that the Thrill grew stronger when fighting in the Civil War. Dalinar realizes that as he felt the Thrill less it became stronger for the people in Jah Kevad. This really upsets him. He begins to feel the Thrill as he walks throughout Vedenar, and is very frightened. He runs away every time it starts creeping on him.

Varieties

There are different types of Thrill.[3] The Thrill of contest is less strong than the Thrill of battle.

Effects

According to description, the Thrill "sings" and is a feeling of glory. It focuses a person[4] and gives them strength to disregard external influences. Dalinar feels it very strongly, but it is beginning to go away. At one point, he was fighting Parshendi and the Thrill went away. He felt nauseous and wanted to stop fighting. The Thrill allows warriors in Roshar to fight without feeling the pain of killing. Men do not discuss the Thrill, as it is an intensely personal experience [5]

Capture

During the Battle of Thaylen Field, Dalinar Kholin manages to coax Nergaoulinto a perfectly cut gemstone, trapping it the same way spren are caught. This ends the battle, as Sadeas's soldiers are freed from Odium's influence.
