Surges are considered by the people of Roshar to be the fundamental forces by which the world operates. Manipulating Surges is called Surgebinding.[1][2] These abilities are accessible through the Honorblades of the Heralds and by the Knights Radiant, through their Nahel bond. Humans had the ability to manipulate the Surges on Ashyn before the Expulsion but the mechanics of how this was achieved is unknown.[3][4]
