This information has the ability to potentially ruin elements of the plot for the reader. Proceed with caution if you have not read this book.

The Origin of Storms, often referred to as simply the Origin, is where highstorms are formed. Rosharians believe that it exists far to the east, possibly across or in the Ocean of Origins.[1]

Buildings on Roshar tend to have features such as doors, balconies, patios, and gardens facing away from the Origin.[2][3] This makes Urithiru, which has a line of windows facing the Origin, unusual.[4]

In the story Hoid tells to Kaladin, Derethil and the Wandersail, there is thought to be another Origin to the west, where the Voidbringers were spawned. King Derethil, sailing far to the west, finds a whirlpool where the ocean drains ringed by islands populated by the Uvara people.[5]

Dalinar feels the Stormfather in the direction of the Origin when there is not a highstorm.[6]

Every day at seven forty-six in the morning, Cusicesh forms a face that looks toward the Origin.[7]

Puuli and his grandfather believe that there are people living on an island at the Origin, who will return with "Light in their pockets".[8]
