Vedel (Alethi pronounciation: [vəˈdɛl] və-DEL), also known as Vedeledev in Vorinism, is one of the ten Heralds of the Almighty on Roshar, and the patron Herald of the Order of Edgedancers^{[citation needed]}. Like the other Heralds, Vedel protected mankind during the Cycle of Desolations. According to Talenel she would train surgeons in anticipation of the incoming Desolation.

Culture

A Kharbranthian oath of "by Vedeledev's golden keys!" is used to express astonishment.

Within the context of the Ten Essences Vedel is traditionally associated with the Loving and Healing Divine Attributes, the diamond gemstone, and the essence of lucentia.

The name shortens to vev, and is used to denote the number four, and is often found in dates such as Vevevev , the fourth day of the fourth week of the fourth month. It is also used as an expression.

• Three of the Death Rattle epigraphs in The Way of Kings are dated in the fourth month of vev, one in 1172 and two in 1173
• Vedel is featured as one of the Oathbringer endpapers
