Nlan is a Thaylen sailor and the cook aboard the Wandersail.[1] He is stated to have accepted Rysn's offer to stay ashore during the expedition to Aimia. He is replaced by Cord during the expedition who comes aboard with Lopen, Huio, and Rushu.

Later, it is shown that Nikli planned to step in as ship's cook in order to poison the crew and prevent them from reaching Aimia. It is possible that Nikli was preemptively involved in Nlan's absence to create the vacancy but was thwarted by Cord's arrival.
