Mrall is a Thaylen man, bodyguard and one of the most trusted followers of King Taravangian and the Diagram organization.[1]

Appearance and Personality

Mrall is a Thaylen, thick-armed[2] man who shaves his head and eyebrows.[1]

He is no scholar but is a full participant in the Diagram organization. He believes on the cause and is not afraid to speak his mind. [2]

He claims that he can simply turn off emotions and stop feeling a certain way. But is still awed by the level of destruction caused by the war they created on Jah Keved. He also considered cruel Valam’s request for his bastard son to kill him. [1]

He is very supportive of the methods used by his organization to “save what they can” from Odium, and considers themselves “the only victors of the day” when Taravangian is received in Jah Keved with cheers. He fully understands the strategy: killing key leaders that started war for power causing slaughter; they would react by sending healers and through compassion, they will be accepted by the people of all sides.[1]

History

Mrall is Taravangian’s bodyguard, who has a very important role inside the Diagram organization. Not only is he close to the King himself, but is the final adjudicator of his daily capacity. He is the one to decide what tasks he would be allowed to do without supervision.[1]

Once, on the day that Taravangian solved Fabrisan's Conundrum, Mrall had to have Taravangian locked up because Taravangian believed that it was reasonable to draft a law requiring all citizens below average intelligence commit suicide for the good of Kharbranth. [1]

Mrall accompanies Taravangian to Vedenar after the Jah Keved war of succession when Taravangian gains control of the Veden throne. When Szeth arrives to confront Taravangian, Mrall has his guards separate Taravangian from the Veden soldiers so Taravangian would not be associated with the Assassin in White. Mrall makes excuses, claiming the king is old and overcome with grief. Mrall then brings Taravangian to see Highprince Valam on his deathbed.[1]

Mrall would continue to be close to Taravangian and accompany him to Urithiru and other travels. [3]

However after Dalinar refuses to become the enemy’s champion he starts to doubt the diagram’s accuracy and believes it is growing flawed. Just before Odium meets them, he suggests drafting a change of plan.[2]

Attributes and Abilities

Mrall doesn't seem to have any magical abilites. He is currently close to Taravangian due to friendship and loyalty. [2]

Relationships

Taravangian

Mrall is Taravangian’s bodyguard, but would have in his hands the decision of what he can and can't do for the day. This based on his tests and his behavior.[4] Taravangian considers him a faithful friend.[2]

Adrotagia

Adrotagia trusts Mrall and seems to be his confidant when it comes to Taravangian's state and decisions. They also seem to be friends.[4]

Quotes

Do you accept this assessment and these restrictions, Your Majesty?

— Mrall to Taravangian[1]

Do you realize that the Eighty’s War between Emul and Tukar has lasted six years, and hasn’t produced nearly this level of desolation? Jah Keved ate itself in a matter of months!”

— Mrall to Taravangian at their arrival to Vadenar[1]

Trivia

  • The Diagram is not simply one group, following Taravangian. They follow the diagram itself, not him, and some think his interpretations are wrong.[5]
