Fathom is a type of tree native to Roshar.[1]
Fathom bark can be used to reduce cranial swelling[1] and also as a painkiller.[2] It can also be used as a stimulant.[3]
History
After surviving his judgement by the Stormfather in 1173, a semi-conscious Kaladin thought that he should take fathom bark to reduce the swelling of his brain.[1] He later took fathom bark to manage the pain in his leg after he was injured in the chasms of the Shattered Plains by a chasmfiend.[2] While Kaladin was secretly tending to an unresponsive Teft in Urithiru, fathom bark was one of the medical supplies that he procured with Kuno's help.[4]
Tukks chewed fathom bark habitually.[5]
Ym noted that most street urchins, including the one he was tending at the time, knew to chew fathom bark to stay awake longer than they should.[3]
