Talenel, nicknamed Taln, and called Talenlat in the Vorin religion is one of the Ten Heralds of the Almighty.

Talenel was the only Herald who died in the Last Desolation, he was abandoned by the other Heralds when they chose to walk away rather then return the place of torment that they were trapped in between the Desolations. At the end of The Way of Kings he appeared at the gates of Kholinar dazed and confused, warning of a new Desolation, and promptly collapses.

Is Taln dead?

This page or section deals with theories or speculation.
Please read carefully and note that this is not necessarily canonical.

It has often been suggested that Talenel is dead, because his Shardblade did not vanish. There is evidence to the contrary, however. As Talenel is a Herald, it is likely he is not wielding a Shardblade at all, but an Honorblade. Honorblades are unique, and operate differently. When the wielder dies, Honorblades vanish, opposite of regular Shardblades.Cite error: Invalid <ref> tag; refs with no name must have content

Also, Brandon has said Talenel will be a viewpoint character in later booksCite error: Invalid <ref> tag; refs with no name must have content, so clearly Talenel has not died.
