Noril is an Alethi refugee who arrives at Hearthstone on the day the city is evacuated to Urithiru.

Appearance and Personality

Noril is an Alethi darkeyed man with three moles on his cheek.[1] His entire left arm is missing, lost years prior to his arrival in Hearthstone.[2]

History

Noril tries to escape the horrors of the war in Alethkar by emigrating to Hearthstone. His wife is murdered before his eyes not long before he arrives in Hearthstone, where Lirin puts him on suicide watch because of his battle shock. When the entire population of the city is taken to Urithiru, Noril joins them. Upon his arrival at Urithiru, he is sent to the ardents, who then transfer him to the Devotary of Mercy until Kaladin and Teft - at the request of Noril's niece, Cressa - pull him out of there and start group therapy sessions.

During the occupation of Urithiru, Noril ends up in the Radiant infirmary not long before the tower is restored, where he paints shash glyphs on some people's foreheads, including Lirin.[1][3]He also encourages Rlain to speak to the singers who had just turned against Lezian's soldiers after the death of Teft.[4]

After the tower is restored, he joins Kaladin, Dabbid, and other patients rescued from the ardents' sick rooms in helping each other decompress. [5]
