Hauka is a guard captain in Yeddaw who helps oversee immigration into the city. She is one of the first people Lift interacts with when she arrives there.[1]
Appearance and Personality
She, like most Azish people, wears clothing (armor included) with her family and study patterns on them.[1] She liked to read at night and collects infused spheres to read by.
She has credentials of achievement that would recognise her as eligible to be an officer in any guard unit in greater Makabaki, though not a battlefield commander.
History
She lives on the outskirts of the immigrant quarter in Yeddaw.
She encounters Lift while Lift is attempting to sneak into the city. There is a small fight between her and Lift, but Lift ultimately evades her.[expand][1]
At one point, Nale goes to her home to question her on her encounter with Lift.[2] She eventually corners Lift whilst attempting to communicate with Gawx over spanreed before Gawx can respond with a note of permission.[3]
Lift hears one of Hauka's fears when she starts listening:
“ I feel lost, like a soldier on a battlefield who can’t remember which banner is hers ”

She was on duty again when Lift left Tashikk, and was given a pancake.[5]
