Gaz was the sergeant in charge of the bridge crews in Brightlord Sadeas' army.Cite error: Invalid <ref> tag; refs with no name must have content
Gaz had a beard, but his face was scarred it only grew in patches. He had a single brown eye and did not wear an eyepatch over his missing one. He is described as being very short for an Alethi man.
Gaz was a greedy man who, like most bullies, quickly backs down when confronted. For some reason he had to pay back debts to Lamaril. He was among the more antagonistic towards Kaladin, often taking special delight in attempting to kill off Bridge Four. He did however accept Kaladin's bribes so that Kaladin could stay in control of Bridge Four.
He disappeared in the latter half of the book which is revealed to be because of desertion.
Shallan encountered Gaz with a group of deserters in the Frostlands. She vowed to give them pardons upon returning to the Shattered Plains if they accompanied her there. Shallan's respectful treatment of Gaz improved his attitude towards his position and made him extremely loyal towards her. Upon returning to the Shattered Plains he received his pardon and gained a permanent position as one of Shallan's bodyguards.
