When Dalinar Kholin visits Vedenar, a group of curates finds him there, excommunicate him, and publicly denounce his assertion that the Almighty is not God. When they do so, Dalinar notes that their staves wound with gemstones are more ornate than he would have expected and that such grandeur was supposed to have ended after the Hierocracy.[1] Before this, Kadash had asked Dalinar to help him sooth the curates anger, but Dalinar refused to do so as he felt he could not perpetuate falsehood for the sake of holding to traditions.[2]
