Balat Davar originally missed communications with his sister, Shallan, when she had acquired the Soulcaster because he had to attend a feast in their father's name. Sur Kamar was there, and Nan Balat implies Sur Kamar was an important enough person that he could not miss the feast, despite a day's worth of travel each way.
