The Night of Sorrows is an event on Roshar.[1]

The nature of the Night of Sorrows is unknown, but it presumably refers to a turning point of some kind related to the True Desolation and the Everstorm.[2]

History[edit]

The term "Night of Sorrows" was repeated in a number of Dalinar's visions, spoken by a voice that Dalinar was not initially able to identify; it was always mentioned alongside the True Desolation and Everstorm.[3][2][4] The Almighty (Honor) later revealed that he was the voice speaking in the visions, but he could not respond to Dalinar's questions, and did not elaborate on his warnings.[5] When Dalinar later revisited one of the visions with Yanagawn, Honor repeated his previous speech in the vision, including his reference to the Night of Sorrows.[6]

The only other known reference to the Night of Sorrows was in a Death Rattle collected by the Silent Gatherers in 1172. It was once again referred to in the same breath as the True Desolation and Everstorm.[7]

Quotes[edit]

The Night of Sorrows will come, and the True Desolation. The Everstorm.

—Honor, in a vision of the Recreance[2]

Unite them. The sun approaches the horizon. The Everstorm comes. The True Desolation. The Night of Sorrows. You must prepare.

—Honor[5]

I have seen the end, and have heard it named. The Night of Sorrows, the True Desolation. The Everstorm.
