It has often been suggested that Talenel is dead, because his [[Shardblade]] did not vanish. There is evidence to the contrary, however. As Talenel is a Herald, it is likely he is not wielding a Shardblade at all, but an [[Honorblade]]. Honorblades are unique, and operate differently. When the wielder dies, Honorblades vanish, opposite of regular Shardblades.{{ref|b|twok|c|prelude|"If their masters had died, those Blades would have vanished."}}

Though his blade didn't vanish when he collapsed this is not an evidence that he might have died. It's indisputable that Taln is one of the Heralds and thus it's known from the Prelude that the Herald's Honorblades vanish if their wielder died (in contrary to Shardblades that stay when the Shardbearer dies).{{ref|b|sa1|prelude|"If their masters had died, those Blades would have vanished."}}
