Mare was a Tineye from Scadrial and a member of Kelsier's crew.

She was Kelsier's late wife for about thirteen years [1] and collected pre-Ascension artifacts, including a picture of a flower.[2] She was described as loyal and unconventional. [3]She introduced Sazed to Kelsier, and followed the pre-Ascension religion of Larstaism.[4] She wished for children. Kelsier, while reflecting on Vin, theorizes that she would have liked Vin, and would have been able to teach her to be able to walk the line between noblewomen and thief.[1]

She was suspected of betraying Kelsier when his crew infiltrated Kredik Shaw a number of years before the fall of the Final Empire.[5] It is discovered later that the Lord Ruler was able to pierce the crew's Smoker coppercloud and was able to sense Mare burning tin.[6]

Several weeks after Kelsier arrived in the Pits of Hathsin, Mare showed up as a prisoner. It was never revealed as to why it took so long for Mare to be sent, though it can be assumed that the Inquisitors had tortured her for information on who her father was, being a halfbreed of nobility and skaa. When she finally broke and told them, they sent her to become a slave laborer in Hathsin. She died in the Pits of Hathsin after being caught in Kredik Shaw. Kelsier was unable to find an atium geode, and Mare gave him hers, lying when she told him that she had found two that week. Mare was then beaten to death by guards as a punishment for not having her Atium bead. This event triggered Kelsier's Snapping, and he escaped the Pits soon after.[1]

There is no cognitive shadow of Mare hanging around.[7]
