—Ham[1]

Hammond was a skaa misting from the Final Empire on Scadrial.[2]

Appearance and personality

He was a Thug, and was a member of Kelsier's band of thieves who helped to organize the rebellion's army of Skaa. Before joining Kelsier's crew he worked with Breeze, whom he shared an unusual relationship with; although Breeze enjoyed Ham's company he outwardly complained regarding Ham's habit of thinking situations through philosophically. His intellectual abilities were seen as very unusual for a man of his profession, according to Kelsier.

History

As well as training the Skaa army for Yeden's Skaa rebellion, Ham trained Vin in using Pewter. Through doing this he gained a friendship with Vin, who accompanied him when travelling to the garrison in Luthadel.

When Renoux and Spook were captured, Ham led the attack to rescue them while Kelsier fought the Steel Inquisitor at the same time. Ham survived the Collapse and continued to serve as a general under Elend, whom he also befriended. However, he proved to be an ineffective general in some ways, as Vin observed, because of his attachment to his men. As a result, Captain Demoux eventually replaced him as a general.

After Ruin was released, Ham continued to help train soldiers and was present at the siege of Fadrex City. He was responsible for making Elend decide not to release the Koloss on the city, one of the only cases where Ham decided to make a total decision. Ham survived the Catacendre.

Ham had a wife and children. He preferred to distance himself from them while working on thieving jobs for their own protection, sometimes going months without seeing them. He was reunited with his family after the Catacendre.[3]
