There are two required parameters, the {{{world}}} that the place inhabits, and the {{{books}}} or series the place is set upon.
Pages that make use of the ''{{t|location}}'' template will be added to [[:Category: Locations]]. In addition to this, specifying an <code>earth</code> in the infobox will apply the appropriate [[Earth]] category (<small>e.g. <code>|earth=Reckoners</code> will apply [[:Category:Earth (Reckoners)]]</small>).
A number of optional parameters allow you to pinpoint the location to a particular {{{region}}}, {{{country}}}, {{{capital}}} or {{{city}}}. {{{capital}}} should be used when talking about countries, {{{city}}} should be used when talking about places inside a city.
Another parameter allows you to define the {{{era}}} or time period the place existed in.


An advanced field {{{location}}} allows you to add {{t|row/kv}}s directly, and {{{place}}} allows you to change the box heading.

Location

The general {{location}} infobox template can be used to describe locations that cannot be better described by other location templates, such as:

  • {{nation}} for nations, kingdoms, etc.
  • {{settlement}} for cities, villages, etc.
  • {{architecture}} for buildings
