Vin's mother was a skaa prostitute in Luthadel. She used Vin's sister to Hemalurgically charge a bronze spike. She then spiked Vin with this bronze 'earring', which later gave her the power to pierce copperclouds.

She was under the influence of Ruin, and he was able to influence her due to her own insanity.
