Starsight is the second book in the Skyward series by Brandon Sanderson. It is the sequel to Skyward.[1]
Cover Synopsis
“All her life, Spensa has dreamed of becoming a pilot. Of proving she’s a hero like her father. She made it to the sky, but the truths she learned about her father were crushing. The rumors of his cowardice are true—he deserted his flight during battle against the Krell. Worse, though, he turned against his team and attacked them.
Spensa is sure there’s more to the story. And she’s sure that whatever happened to her father in his starship could happen to her. When she made it outside the protective shell of her planet, she heard the stars—and it was terrifying. Everything Spensa has been taught about her world is a lie.
But Spensa also discovered a few other things about herself—and she’ll travel to the end of the galaxy to save humankind if she needs to.”

Summary
During a battle with the Krell a couple months after the Battle of Alta Second, a alien named Alanik, of the UrDail species, crashes on Detritus and gives Spensa the opportunity to take her place and spy on the Krell.[3][4] Alanik was cytonic like Spensa, and imprinted the coordinates for a place called Starsight in her brain.[4] Spensa hyperjumps for the second time and finds herself at the center of bureaucracy for the Superiority, the alien organization that had kept humans imprisoned on Detritus for decades.[5]
Spensa pretends to be Alanik and tries out for the Superiority's new Delver Resistance Project, hoping to discover the secret to hyperdrives.[6] She trains in a flight with Vapor, a non-corporeal figment; Morriumur, a draft; Hesho, former king of the Kitsen; and Brade, a tamed and registered human.
Development
Brandon started writing Starsight in mid-2018 after completing Skyward.[7] Brandon had some difficulty working through the first draft[8] but solved these issues and finished writing the book in the fall of 2018.[9] It was released about one year after the release of Skyward, on November 26, 2019.
