First of the Sun is a minor Shardworld.[2] The world has not yet developed spacefaring technology, but they have been visited by the Ones Above, a spacefaring race from another world.

The Pantheon

The Pantheon is an archipelago whose islands are revered by traditional Eelakin. The islands are home to a number of species with cognitive magic, most notably Aviar: birds who attract a cognitively-gifted parasite, that seems to come from the birds themselves. These have been subjected to an increase in demand all over the planet, because very few people (only one is mentioned in the book) know that the gifts come from the parasites.

The Eelakin Islands

The Eelakin Islands are the homeland of the Eelakin people.

Mainland

The Mainland is inhabited by people who look down upon the hunters of the Panatheon. They are more modern, and are fully willing to use the machine given to them by the Ones Above.
