I thought I was going to die. Just like all the others in Arlington. All for nothing! Lifeforce made me an offer.

—Brigand explaining his betrayal to Abigail[1]

Brigand is part of the Texas Reckoner cell. He gets wounded by shrapnel during a mission in Galveston.[2] He later betrays his fellow Reckoners to Lifeforce, and is rewarded with luxurious housing and food, as well as getting his disfigured face made whole again.[1] He tries to rationalize his decision, but he is consumed with his guilt. He realizes that even Lifeforce is doing good for other people by providing them a paradise to live in, while Brigand only looks out for himself.[3] Lifeforce used Brigand for one of his experiments, killing him in the process.[4]

History

At the Coop

After Jax had been at the Coop for a few years, Zeff had Brigand fight him in the practice ring, despite Brigand being five years older than Jax. Brigand was much better, and easily defeated Jax over and over. After two weeks Brigand received a field assignment and left the Coop.[5]

Arlington and Galveston

I felt like I’d robbed a piece of the joy he’d used to have. He’d lost more than just his pretty face. It was something deeper, in his soul.

—Jax[6]

Brigand was with Abigail’s team in Arlington. When things went awry and many of the Texas Reckoners died, Brigand was one of the few Reckoners who survived. Brigand was also part of the Reckoner team during the events at Galveston. After Abigail called the retreat, Brigand and Wade left their post. They were exposed to a shrapnel burst caused by Jax recklessly firing rockets at the Ravens. Abigail gets Brigand back to the rendezvous, where Hershel tends to him. The shrapnel horribly scarred one side of his face, but other than the scarring he soon made a full recovery.
