Skyward Flight is a group of DDF pilots, originally known as Cadet Flight B.[1][2] The Flight is taught by Cobb when its members are still in Flight School.[3] Of the original ten members, only FM and Jorgen graduated.

Skyward Flight was sent into battle on their first day of Flight School, despite their lack of training, as extra starfighters were required to give the impression that the DDF forces were larger than they actually were. During the fight, Krell ships attacked the group and began to chase Jorgen. Kimmalyn successfully sniped the ship from a distance, saving Jorgen's life.[4][5] Rig quit the DDF after the battle, shaken from his experiences in the air.[6]

Roughly a month after the cadets began at Flight School, Bim and Morningtide were shot down during battle.[7]

History

10 Members

Skyward Flight started out with its original ten members. After being deployed to act as decoy reinforcements, Rig quit the Flight, telling Spensa it wasn't his dream and that he wasn't suited for flight.[6]

In one of the Flight's first true fights since their first day of training, Morningtide was shot down by three Krell ships trailing her. In the same battle, Bim was killed trying to go after a lifebuster when its escort peeled away and killed him.[7]

During what was supposed to be a mission surveying falling debris, Spensa and Need followed two members of Nightstorm Flight, who turn out to be Nedd's brothers, into a falling C-137-KJM orbital shipyard. The two pilots were killed when the shipyard hit the ground, [8] which caused Nedd to quit due to emotional trauma.[9]

During another battle, Hurl's shield was brought down and she was hit by a Krell fighter. Jorgen told her to eject, but she refused, trying to be brave and safely land the ship. She was unable to, and died.[10] The next day, Kimmalyn told the flight that she was holding the flight back, so she quit.[11]

After going on scouting with Blaze, the members of Skyward Flight reported back to Cobb to debrief, however, Arturo's mother was there waiting for him, and pulled him out of flight school.[12]

While flying with Nightmare Flight, Skyward Flight saw the other half of the C-137-KJM orbital shipyard falling through the debris field and engaged the Krell who were patrolling it. Bog, a member of Nightmare Flight, had his shield brought down, and Spensa, Jorgen, and FM flew to his rescue. Spensa picked up a tail, had her shield brought down, and was hit, so ejected, and was formally dismissed from flight school.[13]

2 Members

The remaining members of Skyward Flight, Jorgen and FM, graduated and became full pilots. The Flight was then disbanded, as Jorgen and FM were forced to immediately join full DDF Flights to fight in the Second Battle of Alta.
