Foil is an unknown entity in the cosmere that lives deep in an ocean.[1]
He communicates with Khriss and claims that his goal is to master the aethers. He has engaged Khriss in scholarly debate regarding certain aspects of Investiture; she does not dismiss his theories, which suggests that he is exceptionally knowledgeable about the cosmere. Khriss believes that Navani's method of creating anti-Investiture proves that Foil was wrong about a specific disagreement they had related to Command and Intent. She thinks that Foil should be swayed towards her position on the subject, especially if he truly wishes to control the aethers.[1]
Foil could be an alias of the dragon Xisisrefliel. Xisis is cosmere-aware, familiar with Investiture, and he lives at the bottom of an ocean on Lumar, a planet dominated by aether spores.[2][3] "Foil" is also reminiscent of the ending of Xisis's name, -fliel. However, this connection has not been explicitly confirmed.
