Captain Deral traveled with Duchess Khrissalla and her party to Dayside, looking for sand masters.[2]

Baon murdered Deral and his lieutenant on their journey while the three were scouting ahead. Baon lied that the border patrol shot Deral the back while giving them chase.[2] Jon Acron confessed apparent inconsistencies in Baon's tale to Khriss, and Baon later confessed to the murder when Khriss observed that the two pistols he carried were taken from Deral and his lieutetnant.[2][1]
