Mara is a female pilot on Detritus, who may, or may not have, considered herself to be part of the DDF. She is a wise women who is good at consoling peopling during times of loss and grief. She was Cobb's instructor, however, at some point passed away. Cobb knows her as 'Old Mara' -- it is unclear if this is because she was an older women or because this was a nickname.
