The Coppermind has spoilers for all of Brandon's published works, now including The Sunlit Man. Information about books that have not yet been released, like Stormlight 5, is allowed only on meta-pages for the books themselves. For more details, see our spoiler policy. Identity is an ability within the Cosmere that allows a being to have sentience. It acts as a spiritual DNA and it functions with Connection in order to form a link to various forms of Investiture. For this reason it would be difficult if not impossible for someone to be a Mistborn and a Knight Radiant because their Identity would have to have a connection to Scadrial and Roshar.[citation needed]

Feruchemy

In Feruchemy, Identity is stored in Aluminum. To effectively use Aluminum a ferchemist must have access to all the feurchemical powers. By storing his identity in aluminum and then filling another metalmind he can create an "unkeyed" metalmind that can be used by anyone. In certain cases instead of allowing anyone to tap the metalmind it would only allow people who could already use that kind of metalmind to access the power. One example is in the Bands of Mourning when Wax finds a gold bracelet filled with healing power Wayne, a gold Ferring, can access the power but Wax cannot. As far as we know, it cannot be accessed by Allomancy or Hemalurgy.

Medallions

An unsealed metalmind is created by a Feruchemist filling an aluminummind while filling the metalmind with the desired trait or power.
