Mistborn is a fantasy series by Brandon Sanderson.

It is most well known as a trilogy, but there will be additional installments.

Era 1: The First Trilogy

The first Mistborn trilogy chronicles the efforts of a group of Allomancers who attempt to overthrow a dystopian empire and establish themselves in a world covered by ash.

The three books of the trilogy are:

  1. Mistborn: The Final Empire--Commonly referred to simply as "Mistborn"
  2. The Well of Ascension
  3. The Hero of Ages

Era 2: Mistborn Adventures

Set about 300 years after the first trilogy, the Mistborn Adventures are about the exploits of Waxillium Ladrian, a "wild-west Deputy" forced to move into the big city, and starts investigating kidnappings and robberies.

  1. The Alloy of Law
  2. Shadows of Self
  3. Bands of Mourning[1][2]
  4. The Lost Metal (tentative)[3]

The Alloy of Law was initially conceived as one of several short stories Brandon wanted to set between the first and second main trilogies that eventually grew into a full novel, and then a series.[citation needed] Mistborn Adventures is a single four book series, however The Alloy of Law stands more-or-less alone while the rest were plotted together like a trilogy.[3]

Brandon has also said that he may do some more works before the second trilogy, set in a 1940's society.[3]

Second Mistborn Trilogy

Set soon after the Mistborn Adventures, the second trilogy is about a Mistborn serial killer.[4] It supposedly introduces the Southern Peoples of Scadrial.[5]

It will be set in a 1980's society. It will probably be released after any Elantris sequels.[3] Peter has suggested that it is planed for 2020's release.[6]

It will contain a female lead. (From Brandon Sanderson's AMA 3/12/2015)

Third Mistborn Trilogy

The third trilogy is going to be a space-opera with Allomancy powered faster-than-light technology.[7] Hoid will be a main character in this trilogy.[8]

There may be two more currently untitled cosmere series written before this trilogy.[3]
