Braize History

At some point in history Braize was formed in the Rosharan system by Adonalsium.[1][2]

Odium was delibrately trapped on Braize by Honor.[3] Due to the Oathpact Odium was banished to Braize.[4]

It is difficult to date when the Fused were first sent to Braize however it has to be less then six thousands years from the time of The Way of Kings.[5]

In the past, Fused couldn't be reborn when the Heralds stayed on Braize to uphold the Oathpact. They could be reborn many times during each Desolation and were again sealed away when the Heralds returned to Braize.[6]

From there on, the Heralds were stuck in the cycle of Desolations. At the end of each one, they would travel to Braize, their presence there preventing the voidspren and the Fused from returning to Roshar. They would attempt to hide, but eventually, Odium's forces would track them down and begin torturing them until one of the Heralds broke. At this point, the Heralds would be returned to Roshar and resurrected to push Odium's forces back.[7]

Eventually, the pattern of continuous resurrections and torture led to the Heralds growing increasingly stressed and psychologically damaged, making the period between the Desolations shorter as they broke faster and faster.[7] Things came to a head in the Aharietiam, a Desolation where only one Herald, Taln, died in battle. Those who survived were supposed to return voluntarily; however, Ishar theorized that one Herald remaining in Braize was sufficient to keep the Oathpact going. And so, the Heralds decided to abandon Taln to his fate, leaving their Honorblades -- and the Oathpact -- behind.[8] To hide this fact, they told the ordinary people that the Desolations were over, and that they would take the fight to the Tranquiline Halls. This event marked the end of the Heraldic Epoch [9]

The Oathpact was made in such a way that the only way for the Heralds to return to Roshar was for them to break at the torture. However, Talenel did not break this time, and it is currently unclear what caused his return or where exactly he ended up.[10]

Following the Last Desolation the Fused were banished to Braize for another 4500 years.[5]

Braize functions primarily as a prison and so does not have a native population beyond its prisoners.[11] Only Odium spren are welcome on the planet.[12] It has had a deal of influence on Roshar[13] and the Oathpact and Binding of Odium allow the Fused and Heralds to interect with the world directly like the other planets on the Rosharan system.[14]

Braize is one of three worlds in the Rosharan system with sentient beings on it.[15]

Settling of shards???

Braize Trivia

Some people on Roshar belief that Braize is inhabited with people.[16]

The Iriali never visited Braize. [17]

Restares

It took hours to decide, but Restares is right--this is what must be done. For the good of Alethkar.

—Amaram to Kaladin, on deciding to take the Shards for himself[18]

Restares is a member of Sons of Honor, possibly Meridas Amaram's superior, and likely one of the organization's leaders.[18][19][20] Restares may have originally brought Gavilar Kholin into the organization.[21]

History

Gavilar briefly suspected on the night of his assassination that Restares tried to kill him, but never thought that'd actually happen.[22]

Restares had a spanreed to Amaram, which was sometimes carried by Amaram's carriage driver, Pama.[19] After Kaladin saved Amaram's life and kills Helaran Davar, Restares advised that Amaram take the Shardblade and Shardplate, and to kill the witnesses and pretend that Amaram personally won the Shards. The deliberation took hours, but eventually Amaram agreed, thinking it had to be done for the good of Alethkar. This resulted in Kaladin's enslavement, and the deaths of the last surviving members of his squad, Hab, Reesh, Alabet, and Coreb.[18]

Mraize knew about Restares and referred to the Sons of Honor as Restares's cronies. Upon receiving a page of text from Shallan Davar about what Amaram knows, Mraize believed the Sons of Honor are also close to the secrets of the Shattered Plains and Urithiru.[20]

After the Battle of Narak, Amaram wrote to Restares via spanreed that the Sons of Honor are successful in their goal of bringing the Voidbringers back to Roshar, with the hopes the Heralds would also return. Amaram informed Restares of the Everstorm and the Voidbringers' red eyes.[19]

In 1175, Mraize sent Shallan to hunt Restares in Lasting Integrity.[23]
