“These islands were sacred, the trappers their priests. ”
The Pantheon is an archipelago of more than forty islands on the minor Shard world of First of the Sun. The islands of the Pantheon are at least three weeks travel from the Eelakin homeisles.[1]
Lore[edit]
Each Island has a name and personality associated with it. The islands are considered the Eelakin's gods. Patji is the ruler of the islands, also known as The Father. Trappers are trained on Sori and, once finished with their apprenticeship, choose an island to trap for the rest of their lives. They are considered priests of the island. With the exception of the island Sori, trappers tend not to visit the other islands.
Population[edit]
These islands, unlike the Homeisles, are only inhabited by a small number of nomadic Eelakin trappers, estimated a few dozen, who maintain small hidden camps within the island.
Ecology[edit]
While the ecology differs from island to island, most of the islands in the Pantheon share a similar ecology. The islands are host to a number of exotic species. Many of these species have a somewhat unique trait, they can sense the thoughts and presence of other creatures. Some animals use this trait to hunt. Many birds are part of a group or family called Aviar, who host magical parasites that give them unique powers. Most notable of these powers is the ability to conceal minds from predators that are able to locate creatures by sensing their minds.
The Pantheon is home to a number of herbivorous species, of which the Krell are an example. Other animal species are carnivorous, such as the Nightmaws. The ocean around the Pantheon is incredibly dangerous, home to leviathan-like beasts called deepwalkers. This ocean is also home to many octopi.[1]
Known Islands[edit]
- Patji
- The largest of the islands, and the ruler of the pantheon. Aviar must travel there to have their talent bestowed.
- Sori
- The smallest of the islands, and closest to the homeisles, she is loved and protected by all the islands. She is used as a training ground for Eelakin trappers.
