Kulunuts are a type of nut found on Lumar. They store a large amount of fat, which can be extracted and used in place of oil for cooking.

During her time on the Crow's Song, Tress teaches Fort how to cook kulunut bread, choosing it because the ship's oil had gone bad, and the taste of old flour wouldn't be as noticeable. He mashes the nuts to extract their fat, which Tress then uses in the bread recipe, creating a makeshift steamer to cook it. The resulting food tastes so good that Fort believes Tress has tricked him with secret ingredients or cooked it before boarding, describing one bite as equal to every meal he had cooked her in the past.
