Holmes is a citizen of Diggen's Point on Lumar. He is a baker, who saves the ends of loaves of bread to sell very cheaply to Tress while she lives there.[1]

He invites Tress up onto the steps of his house so that she can get a good view of the return of the Duke, as he introduces Dirk and the Princess of Dormancy.[1]
