The coughing shivers is a disease on Sel. After prince Raoden became an Elantrian his father, king Iadon, claimed that he had died from the coughing shivers.[1]

The coughing shivers disfigures it’s victims. The disease is unlikely to kill young and fit men, although it can happen.[1]
