Growing up in Elantris with a bitter father made me a poor Dula.

Galladon's father is an Elantrian on Sel.[1] Like other Elantrians, his skin is silvery and glows faintly, and he is gifted with long life.[2] He is unhappy in Elantris, and wishes just to be a simple farmer. Knowing that he can never go back to Duladel, however, he transfers this wish to Galladon and is happy to send him back to their homeland when he is of age. After his wife dies, he becomes depressed enough that he does not seek medical intervention for his heart trouble.[1]

HistoryEdit

Galladon's father used to be a farmer in Duladel, but he moved to Elantris soon after the Shaod took him. Because his homeland never left his mind, he became a scholar and studied farming and agriculture even though the topics were useless to him in Elantris.[1]

One morning he woke up to find his wife dying next to him, suffering from an unexpected sickness. He tried to heal her, but failed because he didn't know the proper healing methods. Due to this event, he became deeply depressed. When his son became old enough to live on his own, Galladon's father told him to move back to Duladel and become a farmer. Shortly afterwards, he began feeling the signs of heart failure; however, instead of going to the healers, he shut himself up in his study. He eventually died about a year after Galladon moved away.[1]

Galladon moved back to Elantris when the Shaod took him and became very protective of his father's old study. Raoden was the first person to whom he showed the study, and they found some answers to their questions in Galladon's father's old books.[1]
