"What the dusts is a Forgotten!" Joel said.

"A creature of Nebrask," Fitch said. "They lead the wild chalklings."

—Discussion between Joel Saxon and Professor Fitch[1]

Forgotten are unearthly beings that lead the wild chalklings at the Tower of Nebrask.

Attributes and Abilities[edit]

Unlike chalklings, which are made of chalk, the Forgotten appear to be made of charcoal and look like shadows.[2] However, they can still be destroyed by acid.[1] They have the ability to bind with a person and grant Rithmatic powers much like a Shadowblaze, though this ability was unknown to humans until a Forgotten bound itself to Inspector Harding.[3] Joel theorizes that Forgotten can also kill the person outright and take over their body and that that is what happened to Nalizar.

Further separating them from chalklings, Forgotten appear to be sentient beings and are capable of successfully imitating humans whom they take over.

Chalklings under a Forgotten's control can consume Rithmatists instead of just killing them. When this happens, the Rithmatists are turned into further chalklings that can then be used to attack and consume more people, with the added benefit of being able to reform after being destroyed by acid or Rithmatics.[4] However, they revert to human form if the Forgotten is killed.
