The Coup of Urteau is a major event in the history of Scadrial, occurring after the Battle of Luthadel.

Importance of Urteau[edit]

Urteau contained one of the Lord Ruler's storage caverns, with supplies and knowledge of electrum and the location of next cache. It was one of the most important cities in the empire.[1] It was within staging distance of Luthadel.[2] It was also one of the more profitable cities in the empire.[3]

Seizing Power[edit]

After the fall of the Final Empire, Quellion (the Citizen) seized power in Urteau. He claimed that anyone faithful to the Survivor would be safe in the mists. A law was made which required everyone to go into the [mist]s. He declared that those who survived were pure. Then, they began to kill nobles and those who had noble blood.[4]

Events[edit]

When Vin and Elend discovered that there was a storage cavern in Urteau, Vin snuck into the cavern.[5] Elend sent Spook to the city to gather information about the Citizen and his government.[6] At an execution, Spook fought several of Quellion's soldiers. During the fight, he used a Thug as a shield, ending up spiked.[7] Elend sent Sazed, Breeze, and Allrianne to Urteau to bring it back under the control of the New Empire.[2]
