This is a template to simplify the lists of notable characters (or anything else) that appear on many pages on the wiki. By default it lists the 12 largest pages in the selected category. If needed you can specify a category to be excluded, or an additional category to filter for. If you include |r=y it will add Residents of before the category name you entered.

While this is not a perfect method of choosing notability, I think it does a pretty good job.
