Getuk are a type of thick wooden clogs worn by the Torish people to avoid contact with the hot ground. They stand roughly six inches off the ground, at most, and are difficult to maneuver in for those without experience. Getuk designs vary, and include a fashionable high-heeled style.[1] Getuk are easily slipped on and off, and are typically left outside of one's home.[1] The sound of wooden clog on stone can be quite noisy, making it easy to hear people approaching.[2] When bowing, someone may use a clog beneath their knee to allow for kneeling.[3] While their primary purpose is to protect one's feet from the heat of the hot ground, they are not generally thick enough to insulate from the heat entirely.[4] Their effectiveness is limited in hotter areas, and in the searing barrens the ground is even hot enough to set wooden clogs on fire.[5]
