The Simple Rules are a set of rules that a person must follow in the Forests of Hell on Threnody to avoid attracting the attention of shades. Those who break the Simple Rules are usually quickly killed by the shades.[1]
The Rules[edit]
- Do not kindle a flame.
- Do not shed the blood of another.
- Do not run during the night.
History and Consequences[edit]
The origin of the rules is unknown, and the residents of Threnody do not fully understand how they work, even the Forescouts who were the first residents of the Forests of Hell. Breaking a rule and drawing the attention of shades is not a certain death sentence, but it is very difficult to escape them. Violating each rule provokes a slightly different reaction in the shades. Drawing blood enrages them instantly, while running gets their attention much more slowly.
