The Simple Rules were a set of rules that a person had to follow in the Forests of Hell to avoid attracting the attention of shades.[1]

The rules were short and simple. It was forbidden to light a fire, kill anyone, or run during night in the Forests.[1] Those who broke the Simple Rules were usually quickly killed by the shades.[2]

It was believed that the White Fox could break the Simple Rules because shades would not dare come for his soul.[2]
