It is a hexapedal creature with a hard fusion of skin and carapace covering its body. Its call sounds like a multi-voiced trumpet. It has a fluting fish-like tail. It has two antenae for developed sensory experience, pincer's accompanied by a serrated jaw for feeding. Along with these aspects it has an ear hole which leads to the inner ear as opposed to having an outer ear. It is a domestic pet to many noble families. The Axehound is an energetic and agile creature.{{file ref|Axehound by Shallan.jpg|An Axehound|post= from [[Shallan's sketchbook]]}}

Axehounds are hexapedal creatures with a smooth hide that is a cross between skin and carapace. It is more flexible than true carapace, but, like carapace, is formed of interlocking sections. They have a fluting fish-like tail. Axehounds have a pair of feather-like antennae positioned on the top of their heads which they can move as a form of communication. The antennae are implied to be sensitive, with Axehound often bellowing when they get their antenna twisted.{{book ref|sa1|69}} They have ear holes slightly further back on the sides of their heads. Axehounds have a main jaw as well as a pair of outer mandibles that they use to break into the shells of their prey. Much like other species on Roshar, such as Chasmfiends, their blood is violet.{{file ref|Axehound by Shallan.jpg|An Axehound|post= from [[Shallan's sketchbook]]}}{{book ref|wok|i|2}}{{book ref|wor|45}}
