Restares is a Son of Honor.[1] He appears to be Meridas Amaram's superior,[2][1], and the Sons of Honor are described as Restares "cronies"[3], so Restares is likely the leader or one of the leaders of the Sons of Honor. He may have originally brought Gavilar Kholin into the organization.[4]

Gavilar briefly suspects on the night of his assassination that Restares tried to kill him, but never thought he would actually do that.[5]

Restares has a spanreed to Amaram, which was sometimes carried by Amaram's carriage driver, Pama.[1] After Kaladin saves Amaram's life and kills Helaran Davar, Restares advises that Amaram take the Shardblade and Shardplate, and to kill the witnesses and pretend that Amaram personally won the Shards. The deliberation took hours, but eventually Amaram agrees, thinking it had to be done for the good of Alethkar. This results in Kaladin's enslavement, and the deaths of the last surviving members of his squad, Hab, Reesh, Alabet, and Coreb.[2]

Mraize knows about Restares and refers to the Sons of Honor as Restares's cronies. Upon receiving a page of text from Shallan Davar about what Amaram knows, Mraize believes the Sons of Honor are also close to the secrets of the Shattered Plains and Urithiru.[3]

After the Battle of Narak, Amaram writes to Restares via spanreed that the Sons of Honor are successful in their goal in bringing the Voidbringers back to Roshar, with the hopes the Heralds would also return. Amaram informs Restares of the Everstorm and the Voidbringers' red eyes.[1]
