Duchess Khrissalla, better known as Khriss, is a female Worldhopper originally from the country of Elis on the Darkside of the shardworld Taldain.[1][2] Initially unaware of the world beyond her native Darkside, she embarks on a journey to the Dayside of Taldain to find the mythical sand mages. Eventually, she becomes much more informed about the Cosmere and its magics, more than even Hoid or Nazh.[3] She is also the author of the Ars Arcana.[4]
Appearance and Personality
Khriss has black skin, being from the Darkside of Taldain. She has brown eyes and wears her hair in braids. While on Dayside, Khriss wears a pair of dark, heavy sunglasses as she is unused to the sunlight on Dayside.
Khriss is a university-educated scholar and is extremely inquisitive. She seeks to understand and find scientific explanations for all that she can.
History
On Taldain
Khriss travels to Dayside with Baon, Cynder, and Jon Acron. She is trying to discover the mythical sand mages, like her fiance Gevalden tried to do before his death.[5]
On Scadrial
Khriss and Nazh were discovered by Kelsier in the Cognitive Realm of Scadrial. The pair enlightened Kelsier on how the events on Scadrial have an effect on the Cosmere. They remained quite vague as to why they were there, or about other events elsewhere in the Cosmere that are unrelated to the current conflict. They left abruptly after Kelsier told them of his meeting with Drifter.[6]
She later appeared at a party in New Seran in post-Final Ascension Scadrial. There she stole a dance with Waxillium Ladrian and asked him questions about his powers and how they related to physics. She was also mentioned in a broadsheet ad, telling people who hear talking tools to contact Khriss and Nazh.
Relationships
Nazh
The map maker Nazh is in her employ.[7]
Speculation
She had not appeared directly in any of the published books before the releases of The Bands of Mourning and Mistborn: Secret History but she was speculated to be the author of the Ars Arcanum. This is supported by the conversation she had with Wax in Bands of Mourning, revealing that she was doing research in to the Scadrian magic systems.
