Chicken is the name used by all Rosharans except the Shin to refer to all species of birds.[1] Some are in fact what would be called chickens on Earth.[2] Chickens are not native to Roshar, but were brought to the planet during the initial human migration.[3] Chickens mainly live in Shinovar, with very few found further east.[4] For instance, geese live in the Horneater Peaks, and Dalinar sees chickens during his visit to the Valley.[5]

They are often edible, and are therefore an export of Shinovar.[6] Vstim trades with Thresh and potentially other Shin for chickens which he sells to the other nations of Roshar, particularly in the east according to Rysn.[7]

Adolin Kholin is known to eat chicken before duels.[8]
