The Unmade are a group of ninesa3 ancient and twisted sprensa3 on Roshar comprised of Splinters of Odium.1672 They are minions of Odium, doing his bidding.sa3 While they are traditionally depicted as personifications of destruction or forces, some of them are cognizant individuals.sa1sa3 Each Unmade is endowed with vast and terrible powers,sa3 although the intelligence of the Unmade vary drastically. An Unmade may be captured in a polestone like other spren, but to do so seems to require both someone who deeply understands themsa3sa3 and a perfect gemstone.sa3

Prior to the Recreance, a Lightweaver managed to trap Re-Shephir, an act previously thought impossible.sa3 This event may have played a role in the Knights Radiant's plan to trap Ba-Ado-Mishram in a perfect gemstone, which they believed would require a Bondsmith.sa3
The process for capturing mindless Unmade is thought to be similar to the creation of fabrials using Rosharan spren.sa3 The Unmade must be enticed with something which it is highly familiar, and brought close to a gem before it is imprisoned. The Unmade, Nergaoul, has been successfully captured using this method by Dalinar Kholin, whose deep understanding and familiarity with the Thrill allowed him to draw Nergaoul close enough to be captured in the King's Drop. Capturing an Unmade appears to be non-specific to any given Order as Re-Shephir is known to have previously been captured into a perfect gemstone by a Lightweaver.sa3 Ba-Ado-Mishram is also presumed to have been imprisoned in a gemstone, although it is currently unknown if the method used by Dalinar is the same one that was used to capture Re-Shephir and Ba-Ado-Mishram.

Centuries before the True Desolation, Re-Shephir escaped her imprisonment by unknown means. After the Alethi arrived at Urithiru, she once again encountered a Lightweaver, Shallan Davar. Sensing the similarities between Shallan's powers and those of the Lightweaver who had trapped her in the past, Re-Shephir fled rather than risk being imprisoned again.sa3 During the Battle of Thaylen Field, Dalinar Kholin remembered that spren have to be offered something familiar to coax it into a gem to be used in a fabrial.sa3 Using this knowledge, he channeled his past as a warrior, and was able to trap Nergaoul in the King's Drop.sa3. It is unclear whether this is the same method that the ancient Radiants used.
