Feruchemical Brass Savants?[edit]

It's admittedly been a while since I last read The Bands of Mourning, but could the Southern Scadrians' low body temperature potentially be a result of savantism with their Feruchemical brass? They are relying on it pretty much constantly to survive, and in a way it mirrors how Spook's tin savantism left his senses "muddled" when he wasn't burning. Though, on the other hand, it does contradict what was previously said about Feruchemical savantism being incredibly difficult without using Compounding...

I think the implication from The Bands of Mourning is that it has more to do with the how they adapted to how Rashek changed the world. It's possible their constant use of Feruchemy has influenced things since then; that seems too speculative for us to put anything on the Coppermind, but it's an interesting idea and if it's something you're interested in discussing more, I can point you to the 17th Shard forums and Discord.

Their body temperature issues actually cannot be a result of savantism with Feruchemical brass, since Kelsier had to go to the South to create the Firemothers and Firefathers, and they were already dying before he did that (that's that last Bands of Mourning memory). So the implication to me is that Rashek changed them to help them during the Final Empire period to handle the heat, and when Harmony changed the world back, they felt the world was too cold. Their active use of Feruchemical brass using the medallions came later. Its unclear how much access the Southerners have to Feruchemy though, which has always been unclear to me. Anyway, that's my take on that! Glad to see you on here and I appreciate you putting this out there! -- Chaos2651 (talk) 21:51, 16 August 2021 (UTC)
