They are capable of drawing [[Stormlight]] into the body and utilizing it to control the forces of nature.
 
 
Each Surgebinder has control of two of ten fundamental forces, or "surges". So far, we are aware of at least three of the available forces:
 
 
* Atmospheric Pressure
 
* Gravity

Each of the ten combinations of two forces corresponds with an order of the [[Knights Radiant]], for instance, the Windrunners can manipulate both Atmospheric Pressure and Gravity.
 
 
All of the [[Knights Radiant]] were Surgebinders, but [[Szeth]]'s use of magic suggests that it is possible to use surges without being one of the Knights Radiant.

It was split into ten Surges. It used stormlight to control or bind the ten Surges which corresponded to fundamental forces.

The Knights Radiant were Surgebinders.
